I'm attending VTFest in Killington Vermont. I have attended two workshops. I went to Lucie deLabruere's workshop entitled " Redesigning Research/Social Bookmarking" and Jane Wilde's workshop entitled "Wikis and Blogs in your K-8 classroom. Both speakers shared examples and ways they are being used in educational settings.
This morning, Jim Moulton was the keynote speaker sharing some great resources which can be found on my del.icio.us site. He wants us to ask "Why" are we integrating and using technology.

VT LEAD-IT
I have spent the last two days really thinking about how we can make technology seamless in our school district. We started by going back and looking about what vision we had for our district. This brought us to the Essex Design for Learning and what do we want our students to know. We have worked on our technology plan and changed some of our original goals. We are focusing on differentiated learning and how to use advanced learning technologies with our students and staff.
We have had the opportunity to hear some great speakers over the past couple of days. Jim Moulton spoke to us about making the network accessible and giving teachers the opportunity to teach and showing responsible use of the Internet with students. He said "If principals and superintendent's don't step up to the plate put the pressure on teachers to use technology in their curriculum, it won't happen." David Warlick showed us some of the Web 2.0 tools and how to use them with our staffs. He talked about the difference between Web 1.0 and 2.0 and how much more participatory Web 2.0 is. He shared with us the many ways to make it easier to keep up with all the resources online using Aggregators. Bernie Dodge spoke to us on Tuesday evening at Chalkboard 2017 and how technology has changed and how we can't sit back and let it pass us by.
The trick is going to be keeping the momentum going after leaving tomorrow and not lose the focus we have had over the past couple of days. Key players in this will be administration and staff. We have to focus on how it can't be an add on, but just something they do as a regular part of their curriculum.

Online Collaboration
I have been really thinking about how we can streamline work done by teachers in our district. Many of them are working collaboratively on Curriculums in all Subject areas and have to come to meetings to discuss how changes can be made, what resources to use, etc. I think that the collaboration tools I have been learning about could be incorporated into curriculum work. As I send this blog out to some of my colleagues, I would be interested in hearing if they think teachers would be interested in using a collaborative online tool to discuss curriculum issues and have dialogue via the web. Check out a couple of these examples, and let me know. Thanks

Educational Technology and Web 2.0
Over the past couple of weeks, I have had the opportunity to really look at some of the Web 2.0 products and how they might be used in the educational setting. I think that I have a whole new respect for all the possibilities and doors it could open in collaboration and coordination between parents, teachers and students.
I believe that blogging can safely be done in the school setting when students are given instruction on internet safety and know that they are accountable for what they post in a blog. Students may find it easier to respond to someones writing through an electronic method such as blogging. It makes it easier for more people to respond so feedback may be more helpful.

Technology in the Classroom
I would like to use this blog to share websites and training that I find available with the staff at my school and others that may find it helpful. I will begin by sharing some of the Interactive Whiteboard lessons that teachers have shared. I will also ask teachers who have participated in the Palm Handheld workshops to share how they think they might use the Palm Handhelds in the classrooms.
